Talons Up! celebrates organizations that go beyond participation by leading with purpose, serving others, building meaningful partnerships, and contributing to the overall student experience at UNT.  Organizations earn points throughout the academic year by participating in designated Talons Up! opportunities.

As points accumulate, organizations advance through success tiers and become eligible for additional priviliges and incentives.

Officer Eligibility

Serving as a student organization officer is both a privilege and a responsibility. Officer eligibility standards help ensure leaders are positioned for success academically while effectively representing their organization and the University. Maintaining eligibility demonstrates a commitment to personal accountability, organizational excellence, and student success.

Upholding officer eligibility standards is a shared responsibility between student organizations and their leaders. Failure to address known eligibility concerns may result in accountability measures for both the organization and the officer(s) involved.  Review the eligibility requirements and expectations below to ensure you remain eligible to serve in your leadership role. See UNT Policy 07.019  for additional information.

Officer Eligibility Standards
Student Activities performs routine eligibility checks throughout the fall and spring semesters according to officers:

  1. Listed with the organization’s registration application and or
  2. Officers indicated on the organization’s EagleLink roster

For the latter reason, it is imperative to keep roster details updated, adding current officers and discontinuing outgoing officers to ensure accuracy in reporting.

Officers Must:
  • Be in Good Conduct standing as defined by the Code of Student Conduct
  • Maintain a cumulative UNT GPA of 2.4 or better for the terms in office (may consider GPA from previous instution if officer is in their first semester at UNT)
  • Be currently enrolled at UNT for a minimum of:
      • Six semester credit hours as an undergraduate or post-baccalaureate student,
      • Five semester credit hours as a graduate student, or
      • Three semester credit hours as a graduate student registered for dissertation or thesis hours;

Ineligibility Notice and Appeals Process

The ineligible officer(s) and the org Advisor will be notified directly of their ineligible status with immediate steps to be taken, including information related to the Appeals process.  Appeals are considered for academic ineligbility (GPA and or hours of enrollment) only.  An Inelgibile officer may maintain their position until the conclusion of the Appeals process.  

If an Appeal is granted, the ineligible officer does not have to resign from their position, and no further action is needed. They must, however, meet the minimum eligbility standards the semester immedicately following to retain their seat.  If an Appeal is denied, the officer must immediately resign from their position and may be re-instated according to guidance established by the org’s Constitution once they meet eligibility requirements.

The Appeals process can take three weeks depending on officer’s availability and Hearing schedule.

If an Appeal is denied, or an ineligible officer did not seek an Appeal, the officer must immediately resign from their position.

Organizations must following the succession plan established by their org’s Constitution to replace outgoing officers. If the org does not have a Constitutionally backed succession plan, it should seek to amend the Constitution per the terms of such outline in the Constitution for its inclusion.  Absent established Constitutionally backed guidance, contact your Advisor or Student Activities for assistance.
